The Senior Field Investigations Support Officer reports to the Chief Investigations Division.Responsibilities

  •  Under general guidance and supervision, the incumbent shall perform the following independently or as a member of a team: – Oversees and monitors the investigations function of all Field Office investigations offices to provide support and quality assurance for field-based investigations; – Undertakes a monitoring function of all Field Office investigators, including close follow-up of field investigation cases to ensure quality investigation reports and timely investigations; – Reviews and prepares recommendations for the improved effectiveness and efficiency of Field Office investigations offices systems and operations; – Supports Field Office investigations offices investigators by providing training and guidance on the conduct of investigations in accordance with generally recognized international investigative standards and Agency guidelines; – Coordinates with local officials, governments, and outside organizations and obtains internal support such as interpreters to facilitate investigative work.
  •  Develops and participates in the development of the Agency’s policy and procedural framework and best practices and other lessons learned from investigative work; ensures that lessons learned from investigations are incorporated into the Agency policy and procedures and are shared widely with across the Agency; assists in the development and implementation of investigator training.
  •  Frequently updates and reports the Chief, Investigations Division concerning recommendations and outcomes the review of Field Office investigations offices systems and operations.

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in law or a related field.Work Experience

A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible relevant experience applying internationally recognized investigation techniques in criminal or administrative inquiries is required. Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, a candidate for an international post must have at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport, or a national identity number is required. Demonstrated knowledge of the Middle Eastern region is required.Languages

Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required.Assessment

Type of Contract and duration: 2 years, with the possibility of further extension. The Senior Field Investigations Support Officer will be required to travel in the Agency’s area of operations.
