The internship in the Human Resources Section, Santiago will last 3 (min) to 6 (max) months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an “as-needed” basis. The Human Resources Section is organized in three areas of work: 1) Staff Administration, 2) Recruitment, and 3) Staff Development and Performance Management. The intern may assist in implementing various initiatives within the Human Resources Section (Administration, Recruitment and Staff Development Units). The intern will be under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Human Resources Section and directly supervised by the Human Resources Officer (Chief of Unit) in charge of the Unit assigned. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region’s economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the Unit to which the intern might be assigned: (a) Staff Administration Unit: – Provide support to HR Partners with Onboarding and Separation activities; – Provide support with review and update of Welcome Guide for new staff; – Provide support with the administration and analysis of different surveys; – Provide support with the preparation, delivery, and follow up of different communications (e.g. memos, contracts, official documents, communication to all staff) – Provide support to HR partners with the preparation and distribution of monthly reports. – Update communication templates (e.g. outlook, brochures); – Provide support with special projects, as needed. (b) Recruitment Unit: – Provide support with the administration and management of the Internship Programme for ECLAC; – Provide support throughout the different stages of the recruitment process; – Review and maintain the e-mail of the Recruitment Unit; – Organize information in the Shared Drive; – Participate in the weekly meetings of the Unit; – Provide support with other projects, as needed. (c) Staff Development and Performance Management Unit: – Provide assistance by preparing and delivering material; – Assist in keeping record of the attendance; – Respond to queries by phone or e-mails; – Enter monthly training statistics; – Support the e-learning platform; – Verify the availability of rooms; – Translate training material into Spanish; – Schedule videoconferences; – Check audio equipment; – Install and check technology for the classes; – Assist in exam-taking; – Write inputs for evaluations and reports concerning training unit activities.Competencies

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). – For this internship, studies in the area of Administration, HR Management, HR Analytics, Data Management or related fields is desirable.Work Experience

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in Spanish is required. Knowledge of English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language would be an asset. Interns are expected to work on a full-time basis (work five days per week; 35 hours) in the Division/Section to which they are assigned, but they may undertake flexible working arrangements, subject to certain conditions. The internship is UNPAID. All costs of travel and accommodation, including living expenses, must be covered by the intern or any relevant sponsoring institution. Interns shall not be eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, positions at the professional level and above for a period of six months following the end of their internship.
